Hinenu - we are here!



Shalom, friends!

Here we are, up in the stunning green north, enjoying spectacular views. After making our ways through LAX and Ben Gurion, meeting our friends from JDS who we are touring with, we were greeted joyfully in Israel by Dana and Neta's grandparents, bearing delicious treats and hugs for all. Ariel, our tour guide met us with Adin, our coordinator and Ayelet, our madricha.

And with the whole gang together, we got the show on the road!

We headed immediately up north to enjoy the views over the Kinneret. At Mitzpe Arbel, the Arbel Overlook, we learned about Arbel Reich. He was a young soldier who quickly rose to the rank of commander, and sadly fell for Israel in the position. His parents set up a monument in his honor that shares an excerpt from his journal. In it, he shared his dreams for himself, others, and his country.

Dreams that we shared with each other today, too.



We arrived at our hostel afterwards to enjoy dinner together and to begin preparing for a sensational host of activities over the next few days. We'll do our best to catch up with you tomorrow with a round up from the kids, who are now all very happily showered, brushed, in clean pajamas and faaaaaaast asleep.

Desert Adventures

Note: Pictures to be uploaded shortly, when wifi is stronger. We're working against the elements here. Wow, where to begin? After our adventures through the Hebrew city, we headed south. We took a quick evening peek at Machtesh Ramon, before enjoying a delicious dinner and a reflection session on the trip up on the roof. Note: Zach is not fan of bugs. We all know that now. The next day, our boots were made for walking, as we explored the magic of Ein Avdat. Ariel, our tour guide, took us to his favorite tree and showed us the many different ways we can find life and water in the desert. We explored the gorgeous waterfall before tackling the steep ascent to the top of the mountain. We got hungry, so we stopped by a local supermarket. Everyone was given a different food to find in the supermarket and we enjoyed a picnic lunch of sandwiches with hummus, deli meats and an amazing tehina (thanks, Ravi!) as well as fruit and chopped veggies, with our supermarket findings. Thursday-Sunday in a nutshell

Then, on Thursday.... After visiting the Kinneret cemetery and the graves of great Israeli poets like Rachel (Bluwstein) and Naomi Shemer, we took a refreshing dip at Sachne (Gan Hashelosha) a natural hot spring. We enjoyed a picnic lunch of schnitzel baguettes and salad before we hopped back on the bus. We stopped briefly at Beit Alpha to see one of the world's oldest synagogues, and then…we arrived in Tel-Aviv! It’s Zach Zinman here. Our class had the opportunity to experience the electric energy of the coastal city. It was not only the sites that made us feel this way, though. The people in this city had a welcoming vibe. This attitude made for great interviews. We were asked to talk to people in Tel-Aviv about the upcoming election. I found it fascinating that very different people can have such similar beliefs.
